A week off
You know you shouldn't be doing anything when your personal trainer orders you to take a week off. I've had a couple twinges of late, and she thinks it's a combination of the soccer reffing, the weight training, and the amount of skating I've been doing lately. So, better safe than sorry.
Going to have to find a few more good books for this week.

On an aside - I apologize for not getting back to check if there were comments added. I'm not ignoring you, I'm just forgetting to check the site, because this time of the year there is little to write about.

High school ref meeting... blech!
You know the high school association is so focused on coaches when, at a referee association meeting, the "trainer" goes on about coaching activities. Every year I get just a little more cynical about high school athletics. I don't know if it's because I don't feel the love (the guy really hammered on things that would get us fired or sued this year - I suppose it's better than the insults he did in years past when I kept a list of the number each time), or just them being overly pompous.
Whatever it is - I just don't care. I'll do the games, more times than not I'll even enjoy them - but hearing the high school league pontificate about how important they are, and how they're better and have higher ideals than the USSF or FIFA just turns my stomach. OK, to be truthful, they may well have higher ideals, but they fall so short of them that the USSF and FIFA, in their (according to the high school authorities) "the game is all mentality" are actually far more instructive and helpful to the kids than the structure of high school sports will ever be.
Overall, I've seen worse sportsmanship from players and coaches in high school, taking the medal in both the overall and individual events. I suppose I'd like some honestly out of them; something along the lines of, "It doesn't matter how good you are, how right you are - if the coach doesn't like you, you're screwed." Now the referee's association knows and says this, but it wouldn't hurt to come from the actual people in charge.
